Gotabaya attempts to avoid being prosecuted for Elephant Theft (Basted)

Former Defense Secretary has handed over the two elephant calves he had illegally kept stating he is unable to look after them. Deputy Minister of Wildlife Conservation Wasantha Senanayaka said the two elephant calves were handed over to Pinnawela elephant orphanage today (31st).

Before handing over the calves former Defense Secretary had telephoned him said the Deputy Minister.

However, animal lovers say the two elephant calves were kept by the Defense Secretary illegally and by handing over the elephants he had attempted to avoid being prosecuted. Why did he wait until now to hand over the elephants if he could not maintain them ask animal lovers.
